Meet Jen
Hey! I'm Jen.....I'm a birth doula, midwifery student, and mother to four beautiful little divas, a handsome little guy, and a bonus mom to a sweet teenage daughter. Whooo, that was a mouthful! I love all things to do with birth and consider myself to be a bit of an addict of sorts. I have a passion for birth and helping others. Ever since I can remember, I have loved pregnancy, children, and learning. I even wanted to become an obstetrician!
I began learning all I could about pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period in 2005 when a close friend became pregnant, and delved even deeper during my own pregnancy in 2007. Since that time, I have had five completely different birth experiences ranging from your typical hospital birth, a belly birth (also known as a c-section), various VBAC experiences, and even an accidental home birth. I feel these very different experiences were very much due to my support team as well as the bedside manner of the medical teams. One of my best births by far was the birth of my youngest daughter Edyn in November 2015, where I had the attendance of my doula & birth photographer, Sam (you can find my birth story here). Although the birth of my son Akono in August 2018 was pretty good too (you can find that birth story here). I am a Birth Arts International trained birth doula, trained by former Philadelphia midwife & doula Beth Goldberg of Believe In Birth, and I knew that this was just the beginning of living my dream. I believe every person of childbearing age and birthing person should feel supported, educated, and empowered in their decisions regarding their pregnancy and child's birth, none of it has to suck or be a horrible experience. I am currently in midwifery school pursuing my BSM and to become a CPM. My long-term goal is to open a birthing center and grant as many people access to midwifery care as I can. I strive to help as many people, specifically birthing people who identify as BIPOC, as possible. Quality and respectful reproductive healthcare should not be dependent on whether you can afford it or not, it should be the standard. Until it is, I'll help ensure each client I have is well-informed in their choices and rights. An informed birther is an empowered birther :) |
Birth Doula,
Student Midwife, Birth Photographer Jen is a fantastic doula. She really took the time to get to know both me and my husband and to learn what we hoped to get out of my birth experience. She prepared us with information about early labor, coping tips, and ways that my husband could be supportive. We had several prenatal visits, her support throughout my entire (difficult) labor, and several post partum visits. Jen was always professional and was a great support for both me and my husband through this huge life change. |
